Some preview photos of a beautiful solar passive hemp masonry home in Mullumbimby, in the NSW Northern Rivers that’s nearing completion.
The home features varying finishes both internally and externally. Some internal walls remain unrendered and will be sealed with a clear breathable sealant. Other internal walls are rendered on the lower half of the wall with the render finishing in an undulating line. Plasterboard is also used internally on a few surfaces to create some really light spaces.
The home aims to achieve sustainability in multiple ways. The north facing orientation is ideal for maximising the potential of solar PV and Solar Hot Water and natural ventilation combined with the thermally efficient hemp lime building envelope has created a really comfortable thermally effective living space.
The home also demonstrates some lateral thinking when it comes to building efficiently for a young family. It’s quite a small build which provides ample room for the young family. An additional small self contained guesthouse is planned adjacent to the main home which will become a third bedroom as the family’s two young children become teenagers.
