This home in Hazelbrook in the New South Wales Blue Mountains is the work of Dick Clarke award winning sustainable building designer and editor of a recently published guide to creating ecological housing for builders, designers and home owners, Rethink Building Materials and builder Warwick Larkin.
This house is made from hemp masonry (or hemp lime composite) with passive solar design in a predominantly cool climate with occasional hot weather. The floor plan is divided into three distinct zones, providing good thermal and acoustic control. The house is self- sufficient for energy and water, and features zero toxicity materials throughout.
The hemp masonry has been left exposed on some walls because it was built so well and is so beautiful in colour and texture.
